CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Most classes offered at studio330 are ‘Vinyasa’ yoga. Vinyasa means “to place in a special way” and describes a dynamic practice where poses are linked to each other in an intelligent sequence. Additionally, we offer yin and restorative yoga. Every class is built around the key elements of the yoga practice: breath, meditation, and deep relaxation.
INTRO YOGA
For those new to yoga or those looking for a refresh. Improve range of motion, increase flexibility, and find better balance through functional movements, and learn about what yoga means on and off the mat. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, and will leave feeling prepared for drop-in classes and confident in your ability to move safely in your practice in the studio or at home. This class will cycle through 4 main themes—attend consistently for a month to get the whole picture. 1st week of each month: standing poses; 2nd week: forward folds and hip openers; 3rd week: backbends; 4th week: twists. 5 Wednesdays in a month? 5th week: surprise!
LEVEL 1
A yoga class for everyone, featuring a little taste of strength building postures, and plenty of gentle stretches to produce a well-rounded practice. No experience required.
LEVEL 1-2
A class for those wanting to dig a little deeper before taking the plunge into Level 2. Expect some dynamic movement and strength-building postures, as well as opportunities for deeper stretches. Appropriate for those with some experience or a moderate level of physical fitness.
LEVEL 2
A 60-minute class of dynamic movement and muscle-building postures. Expect to work towards advanced poses that require strength and flexibility. Experience with yoga recommended before attending this class…but you don’t have to be a hardcore yogi to try it out! If you come often enough, we’ll get you there.
LEVEL 2+
This dynamic 90-minute class includes core work, challenging poses such as arm balances, and deep stretches. Experience with yoga recommended before attending this class.
CORE

A stable core is key to a strong yoga practice. We need core support to find balance and move safely in our practice. Healthy core muscles play a role in all aspects of our lives, from digestion to emotional stability. This class is not about building up a perfect six-pack, but rather about discovering the positive effects of fluid core strength on your overall wellbeing. All levels welcome, but be prepared to get a 'lil sweaty.
YOGA + MEDITATION
A simple class that includes gentle movement and seated poses, with extra space for various guided meditations. Appropriate for all levels.
SLOW FLOW + RESTORE
A calming blend of slow flow and long, supported holds, this class consists of about 45 minutes of simple, fluid movements followed by 45 minutes of deeply relaxing restorative postures. The perfect way to set the tone for your upcoming week! Appropriate for all levels, and suitable for those with limited range of motion.
RESTORE
Our most gentle class. This class consists of 6-10 reclining and seated postures that are fully supported with props, intended to cultivate integration and relaxation in the body, soothe the nervous system and quiet the mind. Expect NO dynamic movement! This class is appropriate for all levels, and suitable for those with limited range of motion.
YIN
A slow-paced class consisting of passive floor stretches mainly targeting the connective tissue in the lower body—hips, thighs and low spine. Poses are supported with props and typically held for up to five minutes. This class is appropriate for all levels, and suitable for those with limited range of motion.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

End your week with a great big exhale, unwinding the stored up tension and making space for a wonderful weekend. In this class we will engage in simple flowing movement, target high-stress muscles through self-massage using Yoga Tune Up® therapy balls, and join this with breath techniques to release discomforts while soothing the nervous system.
PRENATAL YOGA

This class is designed specifically for the needs of your changing body during pregnancy. Flowing sequences, stretches, breath and visualizations are used to soothe common pregnancy discomforts and prepare you for birth. Various topics will also be discussed, including pelvic floor health, fetal positioning and movements for labour. Take time to slow down and connect with your body and baby. No previous yoga experience is required.
DOSE BREATHWORK

Use breath as a tool to reset that connection to the intrinsic power we all possess to live happy, healthy and free. In this class you'll be exposed to a 90-minute sensory breath and meditation experience that guides you to the deepest corners of your heart, mind and soul while expanding your ability to control your autonomic nervous system for reduced stressed and mindfulness. We deliver accessible solutions to aid in the reclamation of the knowledge, trust and natural healing abilities we all possess deep inside. We believe the key to creating whole wellness is in the neurological connection between the mind, heart and gut.
BODY SHOP
Take your body to the body shop with physiotherapist Olivia Manning. 15-20 minutes of simple self-testing of a specific body part for mobility, followed by and 40-45 minutes of open questions about any body area. Ask about modifications for specific issues, injury prevention, or anything else you’d love to know from a body expert. Every body welcome!
MONTHLY MASTERCLASS
This 90-minute class takes place on the first Saturday of each month. Please don’t be dissuaded by the term “masterclass.“ Please! This is a great opportunity for all of you who want to dig deeper, who want to learn more about your yoga practice, about your body and mind. You don’t have to be a super advanced practitioner. (But advanced practitioners are welcome, of course.) If you are keen to understand more and willing to work, our monthly, 90-minute masterclass will suit you well. Each session will be dedicated to one or several related challenging poses. Our goal is not to master those poses in a ready-made approach, but to break them down in an intelligent way and to really understand and make the poses accessible. Each session will include a short discussion of relevant philosophy and anatomy, a carefully sequenced class to prepare the body, an in-depth look at each challenging pose including accessible variations, relaxation and meditation.
ASHTANGA YOGA
Ashtanga comes from Mysore in India and is a set sequence of  postures linked together through movement. The postures become one at a time more challenging and the attention is on the breath. Each movement of the body fits within the breath in a calm and focused way. You can call it a breathing moving practice.
The first series is called Primary Series and consists of Sun Salutations, a standing sequence, a seated sequence, backbends and a closing sequence. There are 6 series in the Ashtanga tradition, Primary series is the one usually taught in led classes. In a led Primary Series class the teacher calls the postures and the students follow the cueing. This class is usually led in Sanskrit. Due to the repetition over weeks of the same postures the students can see their practice advance before their eyes. As always variations are offered when needed.
SANGHA  - COMMUNITY GATHERING
The Kingston Sangha is non-profit and donation-based mindfulness group of friends that come together to breathe and cultivate peaceful living.
Started by Hang Nhan and Sarah Martin in their home in 2016, the sangha continues to sit together with the help of a wonderful group of volunteers.
The sangha's practices are based on the Plum Village tradition, established by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. He is a global spiritual leader, poet and peace activist, revered around the world for his pioneering teachings on mindfulness, global ethics and peace.
The practice can include meditation, readings, teachings, deep relaxation, mindful movement, dharma sharing and singing. All persons are welcome. No knowledge of this practice is necessary.
