About liz

Liz has travelled worldwide leading workshops and retreats, and guest teaching at festivals, conferences and in teacher trainings, and offers online content in English and German on international yoga platforms udaya.com and doyouyoga.com. Rooted in her own intense practice, her teaching offers a unique blend of detailed anatomy and alignment instruction with storytelling, philosophy, meditation and mindfulness, marrying modern and traditional approaches to yoga.
She has traveled widely, visiting many holy sites in India and Nepal in order to understand the roots of yoga. She has practiced with diverse teachers from the west and the east, and has been strongly influenced by multiple visits to Plum Village (Thich Nhat Hanh) and years of intensive study with Tsakpo Rinpoche.
In 2014, she co-founded The Groove Gathering. The Groove offers intimate yoga events in diverse locations, focused on exploring movement, sound, and creative play. Events are rooted in the local community, emphasizing inclusivity and learning together, and featuring some of the best local and international yoga teachers and musicians out there.
After eight years based in Cologne, Germany, Liz moved to a small farm in the Kingston area and took ownership of studio330 in 2017. She is enjoying putting down roots and becoming immersed in the Kingston yoga community. When at home, you’ll find her getting muddy in the vegetable garden with her two young boys, tending to a small crew of chickens and goats, and exploring her connection to the land.

WHY studio330?
A marriage of anatomy and philosophy
We believe that in order to understand the various poses and movements and create an accessible experience for individuals, knowledge of biomechanics is imperative. Both a Western and Eastern understanding of anatomy are therefore an integral part of the training. Additionally, we’ll tie the physical practice to the tradition of yoga and its philosophical foundations.
Personal and group support
A moderate group size will allow us to provide individual support and mentoring throughout the training. You’ll also benefit from learning from and working with your peers.
The Groove Gathering
Training tuition includes participation in two small day-long festivals, where you’ll be exposed to a number of highly skilled yoga teachers, movement educators and musicians. You’ll contribute to the behind-the-scenes operation of this gathering, and have a chance to learn about running a yoga event. (We call these festivals the "miniGroove" in honour of our larger Groove Gathering events, which are currently on hold.)
A head start on your teaching path
Participants of this training will be considered for the studio330 mentorship program. This program offers successful candidates teaching opportunities within the studio or at related events and ongoing feedback and development support.
Unlimited classes at studio330
Tuition includes unlimited classes at studio330 for the duration of the program, a detailed training manual, and a weekend pass to The Groove Gathering.
Teacher certification
The studio330 program includes 200 hours of in-person teaching plus additional homework. After completing the training, including written and practical exams, you will receive a certificate that qualifies you to teach yoga anywhere in the world. (Please note studio330 is not affiliated with the Yoga Alliance. The Yoga Alliance is not a regulatory body and Yoga Alliance certification will not have any impact on your opportunities to teach.)
Certification under the Income Tax Act
This program is certified by Employment and Social Development Canada, which means your tuition is tax-deductible. studio330 will provide students in our Teacher Training Program with a T2202A certificate so that you can claim a tuition tax credit on your income tax return. (Students must be at least 16 years of age before the end of the year which the payment is made to be eligible for tuition credits.)

TESTIMONIALS
"The teacher training was a holistic exploration of all aspects of life. I learned about cues, poses, and sanskrit, but I also learned so much about my own self. I gained a wonderful insight into the way I really want to move through the world. Practicing with Liz was a great opportunity to deepen my understanding of each pose and of how to link them together to create a meaningful, safe yoga class for all. I have found in my fellow students a true sangha, a community of practitioners, supporting each other alongside this tremendous journey."
~Laura Chaignon Yoga Teacher, Kingston |
“What an incredible experience filled with nourishment and community this teacher trainer course was. Learning the deeper roots of the yogic philosophy, I really feel this transformed everything I thought I knew about yoga. Liz has the most encouraging way of guiding you to your edge and supporting you through your own personal journey of growth. The world of knowledge that was passed down during this course was delivered through many forms which accommodated all learning styles. All ages, sizes, and flexibility welcomed and treated as one whole community working together towards the same thing. Completing this course you will leave feeling excited and ready to share what you have learned while continuing to expand your personal practice.”
~Amy McEwen Yoga Teacher, Kingston |
“I’ve been fortunate to have Liz and Roland as regular teachers, as well as teachers in my 200-hr Teacher Training, and to have participated in their 50-hr Flightschool Teacher Training. I can only say it’s worth it. Liz and Roland combine meaningful sequencing and anatomical knowledge with the deeper meaning of yoga. They do all this with ease and humor. Through them, I have not only gained deeper access to my physical practice, but also to my meditation practice. In addition, they have significantly shaped my teaching style. Detailed alignment, intelligent class structure, calm, the important in the simple, the lightness in the complex, authenticity and independence—all this is represented Liz and Roland’s style. I highly recommend Liz and Roland to everyone, to learn from the two and to be inspired! “
~Inga Lessmann Yoga Teacher, Hamburg |
"I had the chance to practice with Liz and Roland in various workshops/masterclasses, retreats and at their very own Groove Gathering. For almost three years now I am happy to call them my teachers, as with them what began as a sport turned into a practice. Liz and Roland teach sweaty and often challenging asana-classes with profound anatomical knowledge. Due to great sequencing these classes regularly create the “Yoga-bliss” that brings you back to your mat and to yourself. While they do not chant in classes or burn incense sticks, they always incorporate the spiritual aspects of Yoga in a very down-to-earth and approachable way. What is even more important is the unique energy they create in all of their offerings, truly welcoming everyone and establishing a sense of community wherever they hold space for their students—be it a small group in a weekly workshop, a family-like gathering in the desert or hundreds of people in packed festival-classes.
~Katja Petry Yoga Teacher, Cologne |
“The 50-hr Flighschool Teacher Training with Liz and Roland was a great experience, taught with a lot of heart, wit, knowledge, and a good dose of funny stories from Roland. I have learned a lot, and not only in my own “flying” practice. My teaching has benefitted greatly from the enormous know-how of the two and their ability to connect with their students."
~Melanie Maier Yoga Teacher, Wiesbaden |
“Liz and Roland are wonderful humans and great teachers. It was a pleasure to take the magic ride of a teacher training with them. They are competent in Yoga technique and anatomy, well-educated and credible in Yoga philosophy and lifestyle and most of all humorous and warm-hearted teachers. I’m thankful for an amazing experience and felt always that I’m in good hands with them while facing my insecurities of becoming a yoga teacher.”
~Daniel Nett Yoga Teacher, Hamburg |
